Construction orders rose by 3% in the 12 months to August 2002, according to Department of Trade and Industry figures.
Private housing orders rose by 4% during the period, compared with the year before, while public housing and housing association orders increased by 7%, and by 45% in the three months to August 2002 compared with the previous three months.
Infrastructure orders fell by 1% over the year and were 19% down in the three months to August 2002. Public non-housing orders (excluding infrastructure) increased by 19% and private commercial orders were 5% up.
Private industrial orders fell by 20%, compared with the previous 12 months.
