The latest round of redundancies at Donaldson Timber Engineering (DTE), the UK’s largest independent roof truss manufacturer, has brought total job losses at the division this year to 112.

Fifteen redundancies were made in November and 12 in October. The workforce has now been reduced by 35% in 2008.

Eight staff have also been made redundant at James Donaldson Timber (14% of the workforce).

“Our strategy of not being too reliant on one set of customers has helped mitigate what could have been a more severe cut in jobs,” said a James Donaldson & Sons Ltd spokesperson.

“We are continuing to do everything we can to protect the business and our employees and this includes continuing to diversify and grow the divisions of our business where possible.

“We recently opened a further two locations of MGM Timber, our timber merchants business, which resulted in an increase of staff from 127 to 148.”
