The Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has announced a major initiative to raise quality standards within the industry.

The quality drive was agreed by federation members at their recent annual meeting and conference in Telford.

“We have laid down minimum standards which apply to all federation members involved in the manufacture, supply, installation and maintenance of timber and metal doorsets, industrial doors, garage doors and door hardware,” said chairman Bob Perry.

“This means that specifiers, contractors and end users will be able to obtain products and services from DHF members confident in the knowledge they will benefit from higher quality standards than those offered by non-members. This will in turn give our members real commercial benefit over non-members.”

The new standards will see a completely revised and strengthened Code of Conduct which all members must adhere to.

Minimum standards include having third-party audited factory production control schemes in place, compliance with harmonised standards, making declarations under the machinery directive, fire door certification and commitment to training.

In the past 12 months, the DHF has also set up a specialist group representing the manufacturers of timber doorsets.
