Brian Welsh, formerly general manager at Donaldson Timber Engineering‘s Buckhaven site, has been appointed managing director of Donaldson Timber Engineering North, assuming overall responsibility for the company’s operations in Buckhaven, Cramlington and Mountmellick in Eire.

He succeeds George Watson, who has now left the business which he helped to establish more than 30 years ago.

Mr Welsh joined the company in 1986 after achieving an HND in Construction Management from Kirkcaldy College. “It’s been extremely rewarding for me to see the growth which has taken place in the last 22 years. Throughout these years of great success, we have stayed true to the same philosophy – to focus on continual improvement and reinvestment in the business, while using the latest technology available,” he said.

Succeeding him as general manager of the Buckhaven site is Michael Donaldson, the son of current company chairman and chief executive Neil, and the sixth generation of Donaldson to enter the family business.

Michael Donaldson has worked for the business for the past six years. Last year he became the first person to complete the new Timber Industry Management Masters degree at Napier University.

“Although I am following in a long line of Donaldsons who have worked here, I like to think that the company is a family business in the widest possible sense,” he said. “Many of our employees have been with the firm for more than a decade and everyone has a desire to see the company do well, which goes far beyond any self interest.”
