Malaysia’s primary industries ministry secretary-general has accused developed countries of trying to impose colonial standards on the country’s forestry industry.

After opening a training course on forest and environmental audit in Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Haron Sirai said forestry guidelines of developed nations and NGOs were ‘obsolete, dating back to colonial times which are no longer relevant to Malaysia’.

He added: ‘They are only interested in dictating prices to their own gain.’
