A third-quarter loss last year was converted into C$38m profist and the company said it was eyeing gains from the settlement of the Candian-US softwood lumber dispute.

Third-quarter sales, though, were down to C$1.18bn from C$1.24bn a year ago.

Domtar said it is soon to start receiving refunds of C$204m for duties collected by the US, but that would be subject to a special charge of 19% by the Canadian government.

CEO Raymond Royer said that the strength of the market,s as well as the restructuring, had accelerated the company’s turnaround with higher selling prices for paper, pulp and packaging, combined with lower operating costs contributing to the results.
