In total 40,000 people attended the January show in Hannover, compared to 45,000 last year. Exhibitor numbers were also slightly down, from 1,371 to 1,350.

Despite the lower attendance, spokesperson for organisers Deutsche Messe Dr Jochen Köckler said exhibitors still “succeeded in reaching their international clientele and laying the ground work for the business year ahead”.

Around 60% of visitors came from abroad, with attendance from Asia 21% and the Americas 11% up on 2012. In wood flooring, “experimental wood optics with wood-grain colour accents” were identified as a key trendsetter.

Parquet flooring in hand-scraped, brushed and distressed finishes was also more poplular, as were “more colourful hues”.

At the event, it was also announced that the Domotex Wood Floor Summit, which launched in 2012, would take place again at the 2014 show.
