The Timber Decking Association (TDA) is celebrating two milestones – its imminent expansion into cladding and NHBC approval for a new Code of Practice for raised timber decking.

The TDA-developed Code of Practice has been formally ratified by the NHBC standards committee and from January 1, 2009 will become standard guidance from the NHBC.

TDA director Steve Young said the code is intended as an education tool to ensure best practice in the use of materials and treatments for decking.

“Hopefully it will be another nail in the coffin of cowboy installers,” he said.

The TDA’s move into the cladding market will also come to fruition from the start of 2009, when the Timber Decking and Cladding Association starts up.

The new-look association already exists in name but will start promotion and development work in the first quarter. wood for good is to be involved with the promotion of the cladding side, offering services such as its online learning module for cladding.

The addition of cladding is intended to develop the existing association’s remit, with many of its members already supplying cladding. The TDA will continue to exist as the trade name for the association, with the cladding side focused on promotion to architects and specifiers.
