Industrie Forestière d’Ouesso (IFO), Danzer Group’s subsidiary in the Republic of Congo, has become the largest forest concession in Africa to be awarded Forest Stewardship Council certification.

The FSC certificate guarantees that IFO’s forest concession – which covers an area of nearly 1.16 million ha – is managed according to FSC standards and will enable Danzer Group to supply logs, lumber and veneers from major African species – all with an FSC certificate.

“This is a major milestone in our efforts to increase our production and trade of FSC-certifed products,” said Olof von Gagern, Danzer Group CEO for Africa and Veneer Europe.

“It complements the achievements of our procurement rules for African timber, which set legal origin as a minimum requirement. It also boosts our motivation to increase our efforts towards the certification of our concessions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, managed by our company, SIFORCO.”
