The Kamloops area of Canada has received a temporary boost to its annual allowable cut to deal with fire damaged or beetle infested wood.
A 60% increase in harvesting over a three-year period has been announced but there are concerns about how much of a market there will be for the additional wood.
Kamloops Forest District operations director Peter Lishman said there was no guarantee it would be sold, and added: “All the chief forester can do is make that volume available, and the market forces will play out whether or not it’s actually sold.”
