Dalby Forest Visitor Centre has won the prime minister’s Better Public Building Award at the British Construction Industry Awards 2007.

Designed by architects White Design for the Forestry Commission, the North Yorkshire centre was commended for its use of sustainable materials and locally-sourced timber, which was harvested from Dalby Forest.

“A rich combination of locally harvested timber enhanced the quality, sustainability and speed of construction,” said the judges.

“The client had the vision to maximise sustainability creating the building – and then to use it as an educational example for all visitors.”

Dalby Forest Visitor Centre acts as a gateway to the woodlands, as well as providing educational opportunities based on the local environment through fun days and other activities.
