In the aftermath of the fire, Dr Eric Kentley, the trust’s curatorial consultant, told TTJ that much of the original timber from the ship, including 250 planks from the hull and the panelling from the master’s cabin, had already been placed in storage and were not affected by the incident.

Now the trust has revealed more good news for the historic tea clipper, with the remaining 261 hull planks all set to be conserved and restored and the remaining elements of the original main deck due to be cleaned up and integrated into the finished restoration, which is now set to be completed in early 2010.

The Cutty Sark Trust added that the tween deck and false lower deck were totally lost in the fire but, due to their not being original features, the impact on the project is minimal, with an additional budget line added to account for replacement costs.
