The challenging job involved using a special development of Timbmet Silverman‘s TEC engineered timber range for screens which access an enclosed winter garden in each of the 144 apartments being constructed by George Wimpey City at Falcon Wharf.

The outline design brief called for a sliding door and side window in one screen, with a light-coloured wood preferred by the architects.

Soundcraft discussed the options for using solid ash but design requirements, including humidity levels, temperature changes and acoustic insulation led Timbmet Silverman to recommend an an LVL core overlaid with ponderosa pine.

Soundcraft said the engineered timber meant no shrinkage or stability problems for the screens, which are subject to a continuous stream of fresh air due to the winter garden’s passive ventilation feature.

“This project demonstrated our ability to take a set of specification challenges and work with the joinery manufacturer to create a bespoke solution,” said Justin Hayward, Timbmet Silverman’s TEC manager. “It has been a genuine partnership approach to ensure Soundcraft and, in turn, George Wimpey City, achieved what was required.”
