A solid tulipwood crown almost a metre across but retaining intricate details demanded the full 5-axis machining capabilities of the Bolton company.
The piece was the first of several for specialist fit-out company Edmont Joinery that will go into the various airport projects.
Handrail Creations founder Kenny Macfarlane said: "The project is not within our usual remit, but we decided to accept the challenge. It’s good to push the guys into a realm of manufacturing problems they wouldn’t normally face."
Mr Macfarlane is a former winner of the TTJ Career Development Award and this year his company will be designing and manufacturing the 15 TTJ Awards trophies.
