Cross-laminated timber construction panels have been featured for the first time on Channel 4’s Grand Designs.

LenoTec panels made by Finnforest Merk in Germany and assembled by Eurban Construction were the star in Wednesday’s screening of the popular TV programme.

They were used for the structure of a contemporary home in Headcorn, Kent.

Show presenter Kevin McCloud demonstrated the science behind cross-laminated timber by gluing ice cream wafers crosswise and balancing a large bottle of water on top as a test of strength.

Cedar cladding was chosen for the exterior.
