Firefighters are continuing to tackle a blaze at a wood recycling depot in Dagenham, Essex.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) crews were called to the fire at Wood Bio Mass Services Ltd’s facility in Choats Road at 22:39 on Sunday, with “an amount of timber the size of a football pitch” alight.

The fire also necessitated the closure of the slip road between Choats Road and the A13, causing disruption to traffic on the road.

LFB confirmed to TTJ that the fire “had been burning for some time” and that eight crews remain at the site, adding that they are “making steady progress” and are “on the way to sorting it”.

Norfolk firefighters were also called into action on Monday to stop 100 tonnes of wood waste going up in flames and spreading to nearby Fleet Timber Supplies depot in Poplar Avenue, Saddlebow.

Crews from King’s Lynn, Terrington, Fakenham and Hethersett tackled the blaze, with 11 pumps, two water carriers and an aerial ladder platform used to douse the flames.

The causes of both fires are still under investigation.
