The Gateshead firm said the move will keep pace with the growing popularity among specifiers for the material’s versatility and wide-ranging patterns and effects. Corian is now also used in external cladding.

CD (UK) Ltd, the exclusive UK distributor, trained and assessed the 30-strong workforce.

Crafted & Co managing director Ken Smith said: "Our new Corian certification will strengthen Crafted & Co as it allows us to combine our skills when working with timber and other materials. This will help set us aside from other joinery companies that are only known for their wooodwork."

Corian is traditionally used for kitchen surfaces and bathroom counter tops, but the company has used it to create bespoke furniture as well as bar tops and bar fronts for commercial interiors. One of its early projects was to frabricate an 11m-long bar with an Amberlite resin front.
