Merchant and timber engineering firm CR Taylor Timber has reported a doubling of roof truss sales in 2011.

Bradford-based CR Taylor said I-joist sales were also running at an all-time high, up 15% last year and a further 80% growth expected in 2012.

The company is investing £60,000 in an additional roof truss press this year to further double roof truss sales.

“As well as meeting the needs of our nationwide customer base, we are increasingly supplying roof trusses to other timber firms and builders merchants who do not have their own manufacturing or design capabilities,” said executive chairman Charles Taylor.

He said the growth was due to the impact of a major restructuring and rebranding programme.

The company is planning further recruitment in its engineered timber division to meet demand.

CR Taylor is also moving into the manufacture of spandrel panels and will offer a supply-and-fit roof truss service, while a new 40ft lorry will be used for the delivery of engineered wood products.

“We now have a much more efficient business structure and much more visibility in the trade,” said Mr Taylor. “We feel very positive about the opportunities and challenges 2012 will bring.”
