Sophisticated software enabled Covers Timber Structures to design a complex roof structure for a development at Poundbury, the new village near Dorchester.
The involvement of the Prince of Wales has led to considerable attention being paid to the architecture at Poundbury where strict design codes are in place.
The latest development – Fleur-de-lis – includes 29 retirement apartments and 3,000ft2 of offices and the roof structure features pyramidal, conical and mansard roof forms.
Trussed Rafter Association member Covers used a combination of trusses, flat-topped girder trusses and ring beams to create the pyramidal and conical towers, while around 70 differing trussed rafter frames made up the mansard section of the roof.
