Convoys Ltd has announced the closure of its two marine terminals at Chatham Docks after experiencing a “sharp downturn” in trade over the last few years.

The closure will take place by the end of June and means the loss of 42 jobs.

Staff were informed of the decision to wind up the business on April 27 and the closure will take place in an “orderly manner”.

Convoys is the largest tenant at Chatham, with 25.3 acres of terminal space and 390,000ft² of warehousing. It handles an estimated 100,000 tonnes of timber annually.
