Hall & Tawse Joinery has improved production flexibility after installing a Weinig Conturex automated window line.

The Aberdeen company, part of the Scottish division of Mansell Construction Services Ltd, is using the Conturex for making bespoke windows and door components in a single pass.

The line at Hall & Tawse comprises a portal frame with two vertical machining heads and a universal spindle for flexibility.

A traverse buffer at the automated infeed holds approximately 20-30 minutes worth of components, while at the outfeed there is a buffer conveyor for all finished components prior to assembly.

Maximum component length is 4,500mm and a typical average production time for one fully machined component is two to five minutes, including length profiling, end machining, mortise holes, dowel holes, hinge recesses and vent slots.
