Construction sector output declined by 0.6% in third quarter, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The fall, a preliminary estimate, compared to growth of 1.1% in the second quarter. Output has now fallen by 4% in the past year.
The figure compares with an overall GDP increase of 0.5%, but ONS says this estimation is complicated by special events in the second quarter such as the additional bank holiday for the royal wedding, which would have depressed activity.
