The Northern Ireland Forest Service supplied 12% and the private sector 5%, while 6% of roundwood was imported, mainly from Scotland.
About 69% of all roundwood was processed by sawmills, with the remaining share going into pulpwood and stakes.
Of the 3.5 million m3 of roundwood used in Ireland, some 1.1 million m3 was converted into sawn timber products. Construction timber totalled 450,000m3, fencing 350,000m3 and pallets 390,000m3
The majority of construction sawnwood was consumed in Ireland, while about 49% of pallet and fencing was exported to the UK.
Demand for construction timber was high due to the buoyant housing sector but prices for homegrown construction timber were flat causing some Irish sawmills to revert back to the home pallet and fencing markets.
Fencing, decking and timber lifestyle products all did well, with Irish customers seeming to prefer timber to other materials.
