Seventy per cent of specialists believe the industry should do more to shout about its achievements, according to a new poll from recruitment website CareerStructure.com – particularly given that more than two-thirds of UK building projects are completed ahead of deadline.

Around 85% of the 2,000 construction workers interviewed believe the public only hear about when things go wrong or deadlines are missed.

Mike Convey, website director of CareerStructure.com, said Britain was home to some of the world’s most celebrated contemporary architects and construction professionals, “yet it seems that a few high-profile projects such as Wembley Stadium have caused the public to tar the entire industry with the same brush”.

“It is time for the industry to raise its head above the parapet,” he said. “An offical construction marketing board would be a welcome development for the industry.”
