A delegation from the Confederation of Forest Industries (ConFor) has met new Welsh forestry minister Elin Jones.

ConFor chief executive Stuart Goodall, who attended the meeting with Tilhill’s David Edwards and Graham Taylor of Pryor and Rickett, said the discussion had been particulary timely as the minister was reviewing the refreshed Wales Forestry Strategy.

“As a first meeting it was extremely positive and the minister accepted an invitation by ConFor to see for herself how Wales’ woodland owners are sustainably managing the country’s woods and forests and how the harvested timber is providing jobs and investment along the supply chain, including in the processing sector,” said Mr Goodall.

The delegation gave Ms Jones, a Plaid Cymru member, an introduction to the economic benefits of the Welsh forestry sector and stressed the interdependence of the wide range of businesses along the timber supply chain.
