The Confederation of Forest Industries (ConFor) has appointed Stuart Goodall as its new chief executive.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Goodall was ConFor’s executive director of policy. He will assume his new post on July 16, taking over from David Crichton.

Chairman Tony Willis said that, as executive director for policy, Mr Goodall had been instrumental in building ConFor’s influence and reputation with the government and other public bodies.

“Stuart was previously on secondment to ConFor from the Forestry Commission, and was involved throughout our start-up phase. His appointment therefore provides continuity as well as new leadership,” said Mr Willis.

He also paid tribute to David Crichton’s work in establishing ConFor as “a strong, united and respected representative body of the forest industries”.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Goodall said: “A unique set of circumstances has given us the opportunity to demonstrate the importance of our industry to the economy of the UK and its central role in combating the effects of climate change. Significant growth opportunities exist and I look forward to the challenge of ensuring we are in a position to take advantage of them.”
