Coillte Panel Products has produced a dramatic 10-minute DVD demonstrating the fire performance of Medite FR flame-retardant MDF.
The DVD, filmed at the Antwerp Fire Brigade Training Centre in Belgium, shows two mock hotel rooms undergoing fire safety tests – one using Medite FR Euro Class B and the other Standard Medite. Walls, ceiling and furniture were clad with the materials.
After a gas burner was lit in the corner of the Standard Medite room, “flashover” was achieved in less than seven minutes, while Coillte said the Medite FR room maintained a harmless flame with limited damage.
Coillte said the film showed the vital importance of using correctly specified building materials.
