One of the first moves by the Irish state forestry company will be to rename the business Medite Europe Ltd, in recognition of the Medite MDF brand’s strength.
Completion of the purchase follows approval by the Competition Authority.
The acquisition comprises the Clonmel-based MDF manufacturing site and sales offices in the UK and the Netherlands. Coillte already owns the SmartPly OSB operation in Ireland.
“For Coillte this represents a very significant evolution of our ongoing business strategy,” said Coillte chief executive David Gunning. “This acquisition will enable Coillte to further develop as a successful pan-European business operating in forestry, forest products and land-based businesses.”
