Timber and timber products supplier Clifford Jones Timber Ltd of North Wales has bought Hunter Wilson & Partners Ltd based at Gretna, Scotland for an undisclosed sum.
Alan Jones, managing director of Clifford Jones Timber, said the acquisition of Hunter Timber, which produces machine rounded timbers for the fencing, garden and landscaping industries, would provide significant expansion opportunities for his company.
He said current combined production averaged 1,000m3 of finished rounded material a week and there were plans to double that capacity within a year through investment at the Gretna site. “We have invested £1.5m at Redruth during the past five years and plan to invest around the same amount at Gretna.
“Hunter Wilson’s range of quality machine rounded components fits superbly with our current products and end markets which include log cabins and small chalets.”
He said the strategic location and size of the site at Gretna would provide a superb base for the expansion of operations into the north of England and Scotland. And he did not discount more acquisitions in other locations in the future.
“The Hunter Wilson business has good capacity production and preservative treatment facilities in place, treating with Tanalith E and Tanatone latest generation products. Hunter Wilson had also invested in heat treatment facilities, offering treatment of packaging timbers to meet the international ISPM 15 standard. This will provide a new string to our bow.”
