Clark & Kemp Joinery Ltd has supplied specially fabricated “flitch” beams and other structural parts for the roof of an indoor swimming pool at a £3.25m Essex home.

The Chelmsford company worked closely with developer Countryside Properties, architects and structural engineers to refine the pool roof design at the palatial new property called “The Hall”, near Witham. It used metal flitch plates, supplied by a steelwork sub-contractor, encased in heavy sections of Douglas fir.

The high-load carrying beams connect the tops of 10 circular columns, while further beams span to the outer walls to carry a complex hipped roof construction incorporating high-tensile steel-threaded tie bars.

Clark & Kemp, which is a member of the British Woodworking Federation, pre-assembled the entire roof structure, measuring 6m x 18m, in its workshops.
