Accoya wood has been given a boost after a 42-month trial by TRADA concluded the coating abilities of Accoya consistently outperformed pine and Siberian larch.

All three types of cladding were tested outdoors for three-and-a-half years. The report said pine cladding boards demonstrated a severe level of fissuring, resin exudation, end fissuring, paint peeling over fissures, shelling, surface checking and board distortion. The Siberian larch showed extensive surface checking and burst resin pockets.

Accoya wood still had a flat cladding surface with no gain raising, no shelling, cracking or fissuring, the report said. External dirt was easily cleaned off revealing a sound clean surface with no rot, decay or coating issues.

Justin Peckham, UK & Ireland sales manager at Accoya manufacturer Accsys Technologies, said: “This further testing confirms that Accoya improves considerably the life of the coating compared with other materials.”
