Forestry Commission Scotland is preparing for a busy festive season at its Christmas tree sales centres.

The outlets help the commission form closer links with communities across Scotland, it said, while also providing an opportunity for people to venture out into their local forest.

Environment minister Michael Russell launched this year’s sales drive, buying his Christmas tree from the Glenbranter sales centre.

“Heading out to the national forests to buy your tree can be a lot of fun and can also be good for your health,” said Mr Russell. “A visit to your local woodland is just the tonic to escape the frenzy of Christmas shopping.”

Forestry Commission Scotland provides free mince pies and refreshment at Glenbranter as further incentive for people to head to the sales centre.
