Malaysia’s Jaya Tiasa Holdings Bhd believes China’s recent entrance to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) will lead to greater timber product sales to the country.

It says the reduction of Chinese import tariffs following its membership to the WTO, coupled with strong demand for timber products from the construction industry, should boost flagging sales.

Jaya Tiasa’s largest market is China, accounting for 30.4% of sales last year.

The company recorded pre-tax losses of M$107.2m in the year ending April 30, 2002, while turnover dipped by 29.2% to M$440.3m.
