Snow storms in China have damaged 18.6 million ha of forest across the country, according to the state forestry administration.

Trees in 19 provinces have been affected by the heavy snow in recent weeks.

But Canadian-based Cathay Forest Products, which has forestry plantations in China, says its surveys have revealed no unusual or widespread damage to its assets.

“We are relieved that our plantations did not suffer significant damages,” said Anthony Ng, Cathay’s president and CEO. “Given the extent of the damage to forests across the country, we are fortunate that our assets escaped relatively unscathed.”
