Major afforestation projects in China cost US$3.08bn during 2002, the country’s State Forestry Administration has revealed.
About 6.8 million ha were afforested in the six biggest projects, which cover natural forest protection, conversion of fragile land to forest and the creation of windbreak forests.
The Chinese government provided more than US$2.76bn of funding last year, which is 70% up from its contribution in 2001.
