China’s imports of logs stood at nearly 15 million m³ in 2001, making it the world’s largest timber market.
The country has forecast a shortage of nearly 60 million m³ in the domestic supply of timber for 2002 and predicts more intense competition as more foreign timber traders enter the Chinese market.
