Around 2,800 children in the Scottish Borders region have benefited from a trip on the Forest Education Initiative (FEI) sponsored Woodland Bus.

The bus, which is also funded by the “Bridging the Border” campaign and Treefest, takes children on a tour which links the trees, woodland biodiversity, timber processing and wood products.

FEI chairman Tony Thomas said: “This strong association between timber and wood products and the forest environment is our reason for being.

“The timber products sector, from growers to processors and retailers, should join us in supporting activities which make young people more aware of the link between sustainably-managed forests, sustainably-produced wood products and the wider contribution of woodlands to sustainable development.”
