Chatham House is to release one of the most comprehensive reports ever made on the global response to illegal logging.

“Illegal Logging and Related Trade: Indicators of the Global Response” will be released on July 15.

The report, which follows two years of research, examines and analyses efforts to control illegal logging on five continents.

Innovative indicators are used to measure the volume of timber affected, as well as the influence of actions taken by advocacy groups, consumers, industry, national governments and forest communities.

The study focuses on activities inproducer countries Brazil, Cameroon, Ghana, Indonesia and Malaysia, while processing countries China and Vietnam also come under the spotlight.

Timber-consuming nations studied include France, Japan, Holland, the UK and US.

The report is being launched at the Royal Society.
