Peter Chantler, founder of Chantler Timber, has applied to the Guinness World Records to become, at 83 years of age, the oldest solo helicopter pilot in the world.

Mr Chantler made his attempt on April 8 and once his application is completed, it is only a matter of time before he goes down in history.

He broke the record previously set by an 82-year-old Irishman, David Tyndall.

A number of years ago Mr Chantler handed over the day-to-day running of the company to his son Michael and co-directors Chris Hyde and Ian Symons, but he is still involved in the business in an advisory/consultancy capacity.
