Folkestone-based Channel Woodcraft Ltd is to close down its joinery division, with the loss of 15 jobs.

The company intends to concentrate on developing its timber merchanting and sawmilling businesses which managing director Stuart Bonomy said were trading strongly.

Channel Woodcraft was established as a joinery company more than 75 years ago but Mr Bonomy said it was no longer commercial. A lack of skills and the prices that contracts were going for also made it less competitive.

He said: “We have a large timber division which is going well and there is no sense in letting that side of the business carry the joinery.”
