Consultation is under way on revisions to BS 2482 – Specification for timber scaffold boards, which has introduced a number of key changes to the standard.

The draft revisions include the removal of 50mm-thick board from within the standard; the creation of two grades with different maximum support centres, 1.2m and 1.5m, when specifying 38mm-thick board; and the specification of 63mm-thick boards reduced to a single grade with a maximum support centre of 2.5m.

Annex A and Annex B have also been updated, with new information on the performance characteristics of boards conforming to the standard and support centres respectively.

The revised standard is to remove BS 2482:1981, which is to be withdrawn. Consultation is open until January 31, 2009, with the draft standard available to download from http://drafts.bsigroup.com.
