Papua New Guinea’s National Forest Authority is to take over the log export monitoring role of Swiss company SGS (PNG) from next year.
The government originally contracted SGS to monitor log export operations in 1994 so that it could prevent under-recording in the value of logs sold to overseas markets.
There are currently 25 logging projects in operation throughout the country.
