Three-quarters of FSC certificate holders questioned in an FSC survey have indicated they are not interested in any other certification scheme.

FSC’s Global Market Survey 2010 report, just published online, found 76.6% of respondents said they had not seriously considered applying for other forest management or other timber-related certificates. Some 16.6% said they were interested in obtaining a PEFC certificate, with 7% flagging up an interest in SFI certification.

Just over half (51.6%) said they had not considered other certification because they felt FSC was the best system.

A total of 78% of respondents stated that economic reasons were the main factor in becoming certified. Some 26% said commitment to forest management was their reason for joining.
