The European Confederation of Woodworking Industries, CEI-Bois, presented its Memorandum of the Woodworking Industries in Brussels on February 2.

CEI-Bois said it wanted to use the opportunity of a newly installed European Commission to voice some of its concerns over legislation and highlight other issues where it felt European institutions could be of assistance.

The confederation said Europe strongly needs traditional industry sectors, such as woodworking, and a sound manufacturing base to achieve its goal of becoming the world’s most competitive region.

CEI-Bois chairman Bo Borgström said the aims of the memorandum were to stress the importance of woodworking industries within the EU, to highlight the positive effects of using wood and wood products, and to list the main concerns of the industry and request EU action.

The Memorandum has been widely distributed to European institutions and CEI-Bois said it would serve as a good basis for lobbying at national level.
