An “enormously rare and complicated roofing contract” has won Reed Roofing (Midlands) Ltd an Excellence in Roofing award from the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC).
The cedar shingle roof at All Saints Medical Centre in Birmingham proved to be a complicated project for the company, with the design featuring roofing and tiling ranging from shallow pitches to vertical tile hanging.
It was also part of a newbuild in a conservation area, so the use and installation of sensitive materials were critical.
“It’s quite rare for us to get the opportunity to undertake a project of this size using cedar wood shingles, so it’s nice to be recognised for being innovative at the same time as being eco-friendly,” said Reed managing director Ron Keen.
“It was something very different and an opportunity to exercise skills and ability that are rarely seen in the roofing industry today.”
Reed hand-picked the team to install the roof, choosing “highly experienced operatives with rare skills”.
