The launch of the system follows successful trials with purpose-designed ro-ro cassettes from SCA Transforest.
SCA said that around 70% of the industrial products it sells are now components, pre-processed at its Swedish sawmills and requiring precise handling to avoid transit damage.
Products successfully trialled to date have been door casings and linings, shipped with delicate paper products through SCA Transforest’s dedicated terminal at Tilbury.
SCA Timber Supply managing director Rob Simpson said: “The challenge of combining timber and paper products has been succesfully overcome to the benefit of both handling costs and timber product quality.”
He said environmental impacts from transport are also reduced as these products ship from the same terminal in Sweden to a single entry point in the UK.
