Last October, CHH was fined NZ$900,000 for 20 breaches of the Fair Trading Act, with former general manager Maurice Reid fined NZ$20,000 for his role in the mislabelling of timber.
Now the commission is seeking out 20,000 homeowners believed to have been affected by the case, which relates to the sale of timber by the company between 2000-2003, in order to push ahead with a compensation claim against the Auckland-based firm.
The claim is also being brought on behalf of CHH’s competitors. Anyone who believes they are eligible for compensation has been asked to email their details to the Commerce Commission.
