Sawmill workers have struck a pay agreement with timber companies in northern British Columbia which will land them an 11% pay rise over a six year period.

The agreement mirrors a deal concluded between Canfor and workers at its interior region mills, plus an earlier one drawn up by employers in the southern interior region of the province.

It affects about 1,800 union mill workers and loggers and includes changes designed to add flexibility and reduce costs. Employers who agreed to the contract include West Fraser Timber and Slocan.
