Sustained activity in residential construction helped Canadian sawmill production rise by 13.3% last October.
Sawmills also increased their production from a smaller number of plants to reduce costs and cope with US duties.
Output for the first 10 months of 2002 rose 3.2% compared with the same period in 2001. Sources in the building industry expect the upward trend to continue.
