Canada’s north-west will be exempt from an increased tax on raw log exports.
Forestry operations minister Roger Harris said the rise, which adds between 5-15% to the cost of unprocessed logs, does not apply to the north-west because of special circumstances in the area.
The log export tax, currently C$1 per m3, is widely perceived to be too low.
